Formed in 1962, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. is an American manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components founded by Polish-born businessman Felix Zandman. Vishay has manufacturing plants in Israel, Asia, Europe, and the Americas where it produces rectifiers, diodes, MOSFETs, optoelectronics, selected integrated circuits, resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Vishay is one of the world's foremost manufacturers of power MOSFETs. They have a wide range of power electronic applications, including portable information appliances, internet communications infrastructure, power integrated circuits, cell phones, and notebook computers.
In 1985, Vishay began an ongoing series of strategic acquisitions to become a broad-line manufacturer of electronic components.
Vishay's acquisitions include such top names as Siliconix, Telefunken, the infrared component business of Infineon, General Semiconductor, Dale, Draloric, Sprague, Vitramon, and BCcomponents (former passive components businesses of Philips Electronics and Beyschlag). Acquisitions also include selected discrete semiconductor and module product lines from International Rectifier®, a tantalum capacitor product line from KEMET, the resistor businesses of Huntington Electric (composed of Huntington, Milwaukee, Central, and Mills Resistors), HiRel Systems, MCB Industrie, Holy Stone Polytech, and Capella Microsystems.
